Support Services, under the direction of Captain Melissa Wright (361-825-3791), is divided into three divisions; Communications, Security Services and Parking Control.
The Communications division is the center of information for the University Police Department and consists of seven dispatchers. The Communications division operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. UPD dispatchers answer and direct all calls coming into the police department and utilize an automated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to track events, officers’ responses and status. This division also utilizes the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (TLETS) as well as the National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (NLETS). TLETS and NLETS link together local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies for the purpose of information exchange. The dispatchers are also responsible for activating the university’s Emergency Mass Notification systems.
